In April 2018, BMW revealed the M2 Competition Coupé as the next level of evolution to the M2 Coupé. The biggest change on the M2 Competition was the replacement of the turbocharged N55 engine with the S55 single scroll twin-turbocharged engine with a carbon fibre strut brace as used in the M3 (F80) and the M4. Performance figures increased with the new unit producing 405 bhp which would take the car from 0-60 in just 4.4 seconds through the 6-speed manual gearbox.
Exterior changes include new 19-inch lightweight Y-spoke alloy wheels, bigger brake discs with grey M-sport brake calipers, M-sport wing mirrors from the F80 M3, new front bumper with gloss black kidney grille for improved cooling, new two-pass exhaust system with electronically controlled flaps for improved emissions, new adaptive headlamps and two new exterior colours namely Sunset Orange Metallic and Hockenheim Silver Metallic. The interior also receives minor modifications that include a carbon fibre trim, a new sport steering wheel from the F80 M3 with "M1" and "M2" driving mode selector buttons, door sills with "M2 Competition" badging and M-Sport stitched leather seats with "M2" badging. Weight has also been increased as compared to the standard M2 Coupé and now stands at 1,575 kg courtesy of the new engine and cooling system. Deliveries of the M2 Competition began in July 2018.
